Have you ever taken time off for a big life event, vacation, or needed a break from your craft or daily routine? I sure have, and sometimes I have needed to. This post is all about getting back at it!
We recently welcomed our second daughter into the world, and she is the most tremendous gift we could have asked for. Now that we have somewhat of a semblance of a normal routine, it’s time to get back to doing something I love, writing! Let’s get to it!
This post is all about Back at It: Returning to Your Craft.
Returning to Your Craft
It can be challenging returning to something after it has been a while. I’m here to affirm you that that’s okay. Sometimes your soul needs a refresh or season to focus on what’s really important. Sometimes there are more important things in life that take priority. What matters is that you are loving and taking care of yourself and others. Your favorite activity will still be there when you return.
The danger is in waiting too long. Waiting so long that your identity starts to question if you are that type of person anymore. One who doubts whether or not they are an artist or speaker or writer after they haven’t painted a painting, booked a speech, or written a book in a very long time. That is a real issue. Just because you have been incredibly busy, doesn’t mean that who you are at your core has changed. Maybe you have changed and want to focus on different things. That is okay too.
We welcomed our second daughter into the world about eight months ago and she is truly wonderful (I will write a separate blog post about this). Since then, I have debated whether or not I want to get back into blogging or writing. I have contemplated grad school and starting a business. All of these things fight for time, and I have learned that time can be so scarce as a husband and father. I often choose whether or not I want to read, workout, or do the dishes. Hopefully I can do all three, but these are the type of decisions I have had to make when it’s incredibly difficult to find the time due to the flexible nature of having a newborn and not getting the sleep you once knew.
Today, I had time to read, empty the dishwasher, and finish this blog post. It feels good. I love connecting with others and making an impact. Writing helps me to do and feel that. So whatever it is you are struggling to get back to, take that time and use that gift to make this world a more beautiful place. We need you. You are an artist, a dancer, a beekeeper, and that will never change. What will change, is life. So don’t let it pass by without doing what you love and loving who you love. Have an incredible day.
Lots of Love,
